For the first time in a long time, I was asked to be a second shooter. The main man was Marc Gascoigne, a very lovely and talented photographer. I was delighted to work alongside him at two fabulous venues for Katie and Alex's wedding.
Katie and Alex are members of the prestigious choir at St Martins in the Fields, making the venue extra special. The choir sang throughout the service and signing of the registry. I had goosebumps!
I walk past St Martins in the Fields Church almost every day, but had never stopped by to take a look inside. It's an iconic church, in the heart of London, beside Trafalgar Square. It's flooded with natural light, huge high ceilings, decorated with beautiful gilding.
Having a second shooter at your wedding has a number of benefits. Firstly, it means both the final preparations of the bride and groom can be covered with equal attention. During the ceremony, you will have two perspectives, allowing more creative freedom for the second shooter, and a extra piece of mind that the crucial moments are being captured by both photographers. The second shooter can also take more time for candid photos of your guests, while the main photographer focuses on you.
I have to say, Marc and I made a great team and we're looking forward to shooting more weddings together in the future.
Being the second shooter was especially fun for me, as I had the chance to photograph the groom's final preparations at The Savile Club.
The Savile Club is a traditional London gentlemen's club in the heart of Mayfair. It was established by a group of the most distinguished writers and artists of the time, including Robert Louis Stevenson, Thomas Hardy, HG Wells, Rudyard Kipling, Compton Mackenzie, Max Beerbohm and WB Yeats amongst others.
I have photographed events at The Savile Club, so I was delighted when Marc told me the wedding reception would be here. Each room has a distinct character and charm, everywhere you look is picture perfect; a photographer's dream!
Alex and his bestman decided to walk from The Savile Club to St Martins in the Fields, making the most of a gorgeous day, and turning quite a few heads, looking so dapper!
Congratulations Katie and Alex! What a wonderful day! I feel lucky to have been there assisting Marc to capture so many special memories.
Here's to a very long and happy married life together.
